Martin is
firmly established as a stand-up on the major comedy circuit
and he is the perfect compere on that circuit. He writes
all his own standup material and has a reputation as a
writer for TV and for many other comedy performers…his other
credits include 60 scripts for GMTV’s ‘Professor Bubble’ /
BBC and Channel 4.
Now also
receiving acknowledgement as a playwright, amongst Martin’s
current projects is a ‘trilogy of plays with a British
flavour and Union Jack colours’ - ‘Red Men’, produced by
Theatre West, Bristol - ‘White Van Man’, produced at the
Edinburgh Fringe Festival and ‘Blue Girl’ is nearing
production stage. He is developing other TV scripts and he
has produced the book and lyrics for a new ‘pop’ musical. A
recent corporate project had him devise, script, cast and
direct 2 conference events, held over several days each, for
a major bank and corporation.
When ‘White
Van Man’ was produced at Edinburgh it was a triple triumph
for Martin, appearing for the first time at the Fringe as a
stand-up (writing and performing in ‘The Bootlegs’) and the
‘Big & Daft Christmas Show’ was his directorial debut
there. A few years previously Martin won a ‘First’ at
Edinburgh with a co-written piece.
Martin started
as child actor, appearing in several films and continues to
regularly appear in commercials and corporate films ranging
from boots to banks to buses to beer, including blanket
coverage in the UK in a series of TV, Radio and Magazine
advertisements for the Governmental Central Office of
Information and ‘Test the Nation’. A regular presenter on
Channel 4’s ‘Collectors’ Lot’ over two years he also played
an on-going (periodic) character in the Sky TV soap ‘Dream
Team’.
Martin learned
the art of magic and conjuring which produced his first
comedy success, introducing audiences to a range of comedic
characters who performed (apparently) incompetent magic.
Combined this with his Directing skills, Martin is regularly
called upon to direct and advise comedy magic performers for
stage and TV.
A family
history in showbiz including mother, father, brother and
sister, made it inevitable that Martin would do something in
the business, it just wasn't anticipated that he would do so
much! |
